Just outside of Bethlehem, there were shepherds caring for their sheep in the fields at night. Suddenly they were startled by an angel standing in a bright light. The angel called out to them in a friendly voice, “Don’t be afraid, shepherds, I am here to bring joyful tidings. The Lord Jesus, the Savior, has been born. You will find Him wrapped in cloth and lying in a manger.”
1) What inspired you to write Shelter from the Storm?
My favourite part of teaching was telling stories to the students. Writing a book for children had been on my mind for a while. When a tornado hit Norwich, the idea for this little book was born.
You will read a small portion of the Bible every day by means of this daily meditation book. The Lord uses His Word to teach and convert His children, and often He does this when they are young. In this book you will read about those who feared the Lord in their youth, and what a blessing that is. However, in this book are also examples of those who did not fear the Lord, and the fearful consequences.
Truth as a theme is a very comprehensive subject, because there are many truths in the lie-filled world we live in today. Let us remember that in every circumstance we deal with, there is always a truth. Sometimes there is a truth behind a truth. Or even a truth in a lie. Sometimes a truth and a lie are hardly distinguishable. Sometimes a liar speaks a truth, and he who is known to speak the truth may speak a lie. Nearly endless seems the meditation about the word truth.
Volume 9 in this series deals with the history of the Reformed Church in the Netherlands during the nineteenth century. It describes a falling out among Reformed church leaders and the events following the 1834 split in the church. It also includes stories about influential men such as William Bilderdijk and Isaac da Costa.
